Thinking where to spend this New Year? This year, to find inspiration, we have delved into the book “Four seasons of Travel” edited by National Geographic and where we are offered more than a hundred destinations depending on the time of year in which we want to travel. To discuss the last night of the trip, the authors propose the following destinations. What is your favorite?
New York City, New York

At least once in a lifetime, everyone should come to Times Square to watch thousands and thousands more watch the glass ball fall from the old New York Times building and kiss in unison to a happy new year.
Las Vegas, Nevada

If what you are looking for is to celebrate the last day of the year in the purest kitsch style, your thing, no doubt, is Las Vegas. There, at this time you will find hundreds of thousands of people to enjoy a complete musical and artistic program full of brightness, neon and, of course, a lot of gambling. Everything to resist a night that will gift us a sunrise in the desert.
Rio de Janeiro, Brasil

The end of the year in Rio de Janeiro has its own name: Réveillon, one of the longest and most famous parties on the planet. In it, millions of people dress in white, in honor to the priestesses of the Candomblé, crossing the beaches of the city and throwing flowers to the waves at midnight to honor the goddess of the African sea Yemanjá. After that, the streets of the city are filled with parties, dancing and music in an evening that predicts to be endless.
London, England

George Henton / Epa
Another 100% cosmopolitan destination for the end of the year is London. There the evening begins on the coast of the Thames, which is traveled by millions of people until they find themselves in Trafalgar Square. From there we will see the Big Ben striking 12 to the rhythm of pyrotechnics as the London Eye prepares to start spinning to the rhythm of the fireworks. After the show, it’s time to start the night in any of the nightclubs in the city.
Paris, France

Yann Caradec / Flikr
If what you want is a romantic New Year’s Eve, without a doubt Paris is your destination. On this occasion, more than ever, the city of lights exudes love all around the Champs Elysees where the champagne runs to the rhythm of the fireworks that the Eiffel Tower shoots.
Madrid, Spain
In its selection of New Year destinations, National Geographic includes Madrid, probably because of the curious Spanish tradition of celebrating the changing of the year eating 12 raisins, one per bell stroke. If you are in the capital of the country, your thing is to approach the Puerta del Sol of the city where the party is insured.
Christmas Island, South Pacific
And if you want to lose yourself and get away from the crowd, it’s best to get closer to Christmas Island, or Kiritimati, one of the first inhabited places in the world where the New Year is celebrated. With only about 5,000 inhabitants, on New Year’s Eve the island becomes an intimate place to welcome the New Year.
Sydney, Australia

We finished this selection with another mainstream venue to celebrate this date, the coast in Sydney. In this city, the iconic harbor bridge and nearby buildings are lit at midnight with one of the most spectacular fireworks productions in the world. At least once in a lifetime you should see it.
