A story of discoveries

Sigo en Tumblr a Jesús del blog Nada Importa, y cuando vi esta ilustración titulada “What to Pack to Travel the World” no dudé en hacer click. “How to Pack Like Nellie Bly, Pioneering Journalist.”

Bon voyage!

My most popular recurring dream ocurrs in a flat that I’m visiting. It seems my future home. It is big, with many rooms. Once I’ve visited it, suddenly appears a door I’ve skiped (or maybe it was not there before). I open it and there is an unseen new room inside that contains another door with another big room… The houses changes, the spaces I find as well, but there is something permanent, the pleasure I feel when I discover the new rooms.

I love internet because sometimes it gives me a similar sensation. I follow on Tumblr Jesús from Nada Importa blog, and when I saw that illustration entitled “What to Pack to Travel the World” I clicked inmediately. I went to his Pinterest account, that I didn’t know and it is full of interesting stuff. My curiosity grew up. I wanted to know the story behind that illustration… So I clicked again. “How to Pack Like Nellie Bly, Pioneering Journalist” The illustrated suitcase by  Wendy MacNaughton had an owner and she was an intrepid journalist from the end of 19th century that decided to set the real-world record for the fastest trip around the world. Determined as she seemed, Nellie packed everything in a single bag to be faster. The story gets complicated with the apparence of a Cosmopolitan founder and another traveler, Elisabeth Bisland. A true story that now traces Matthew Goodman in his Eighty Days book. But as today everything is about discoveries, if you want to know more, I will open you a door to the full article of Maria Popova in Brainpickings, another great find.

And still there are so many doors to open… Bon voyage!
