From abandoned factory to home

Ricardo Bofill es uno de los arquitectos más importantes a nivel internacional. Con su equipo, «Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura», llevan más de cuarenta años creando auténticos mitos en el sector. Su proyecto más el más especial sea quizás este: la transformación de una antigua fábrica de cemento abandonada en su hogar.

La descubrieron en 1974 y la estudiaron a fondo, encontrando 4km de túneles subterráneos y chimeneas enormes. En seguida vieron su potencial. «Seducidos por las contradicciones y la ambigüedad del lugar, decidimos quedarnos con la fábrica y, modificando su brutalidad original, la esculpimos como una obra de arte», dice el arquitecto.

Desde que finalizara su remodelación se ha convertido en casa y en su estudio. Un espacio impresionante, con jardines, estudios, piscina, una «Catedral» y su residencia. «Actualmente vivo y trabajo mejor aquí que en cualquier otro lugar en el mundo». ¡No es para menos!

They discovered it in 1974 and decided to study accurately its whole structure, finding almost 4 km of underground tunnels and enormous chimneys. They noticed its potential in a first sight. «Seduced by the contradictions and the ambiguity of the place, we quickly decided to retain the factory, and modifying its original brutality, sculpt it like a work of art», says Bofill.

Since the remodeling was completed, «la Fabrica» has become his home and his studio. Looking at the images, we discover an amazing place with gardens, different studios, pools, a particular «Cathedral» and his own residence. «Presently I live and work here better than anywhere else», confesses the architect. We have no doubt about it!
