After having explored Belgium seeking new talents for their shop Opening Ceremony, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim (who are creative directors of Kenzo) have been inspired by the capital city of Antwerp for the collection which was introduced during the New York Fashion Week, a couple of weeks ago.
Bad structured garments, mix of prints and avant-garde forms were paying tribute to the mythical group of the six designers Antwerp Six (Dries Van Noten, Anne Demeulemeester, Walter Van Beirendonck, among others) and it positioned the city in the international fashion track.
Toni Espuch also put Belgium in the radar when we asked for his favorite destiny… “Right now Belgium is an inspiring place… the colors trends, the texture…”. So as we are souls seeking for new colors, flavors and scents, here is a mini guide that offers you a short break.
Where to sleep? Let’s put the conventional hotels aside to enter in Quatre2ocing, an interesting Bed&Breakfast. With just three rooms, Gleen Dandos has transformed an apartment into a stylish Art Nouveau one, full of Mis van der Rohe chairs, coffee tables made by Willy Rizzo, lamps designed by Willy Daro and an endless string of reverie furniture. A place of accommodation in Antwerp mandatory for those who are lovers of art.
What to buy? More than 800msq distributed in two floors full of objects of desire to many of us. Ra is a concept store in Antwerp where we can find from collections of Gareth Pugh to Peter Pilotto, passing through Maison Martin Margiel or Dries Van Noten. An unique place designed by Mathieu Lenhanneu where the art, the fashion and even the food are connected to shape a new style of shop that is standing strong for years now.
What to read? Othello is one of those libraries that you would stay submerged a Sunday afternoon. Situated in the center of Antwerp, it has a wide range of books about art, fashion and architecture.
What to eat? As if it was a fish market, FiskeBar is a meeting point of anyone who has a fine taste in Antwerp. Specialized in fresh fish, the restaurant offers a great selection of products. We opt for the oysters with lemon.
What to see? The Museum aande Stroom is, without any doubt, the most outstanding building of all Antwerp. Dedicated entirely to the city of Antwerp, the museum is built on top of an old Napoleon pier, made by a singular and innovative edification as a kind of red cubic building.
Pssst! Don’t forget going up to the ninth floor and going out to the terrace and see a 360º view of the whole city.
