Sportmax Carte Blanche nº5: Chiara Clemente

Sportmax presents the fifth chapter of their project “Carte Blanche”, a capsule collection conceived by Studio Blanco in which invites an artist to interpret the brand with a collection of three garments.

The singer Sonic Youth, Kim Gordon, the editor of Purple Christophe Brunnquell, the artist Lola Montes Schnabel and the creative Ambra Medda have been some of the previous collaborations; and now it’s time for the filmmaker and it-girl Chiara Clemente.

Clemente is the daughter of the painter Francesco Clemente and was raised in a highly artistic environment in which seethe personalities such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Julian Schnabel or Keith Haring. In 2010 she achieved to make her name appear in the documental about five artist women “Our City Dreams” in which Marina Abramovic also appears.

For the collaboration with Sportmax, Clemente declares her love to the art of travelling in this limited collection of 1000 garments. Each piece represents a souvenir from the Amalfi beaches, the cliffs facing the sea Nerano in Naples, the sunset in New York or a palm-tree in Okinawa.

“Travelling has been part of me since before I was born. My first trip was to India in my mother’s womb. When I grew up I kept this desire of travelling and when I started to direct I travelled much more. With every new place, my curiosity grew and the memories stacked taking new forms,” says Chiara about the collaboration.

For the pieces that she has developed with Sportmax, she worked with the notions of travelling and memory. The director selected pictures of her trips and she twisted them to look like they were memories from the past, blurry because of time.
